Pastor Chris
Lessons From God's Parenting | Mother's Day 2021
What can God's care for Israel teach us about raising children and influencing others? On Mother's Day, Pastor Chris turns to the Song of Moses in Deuteronomy 32:10–12, where God is pictured as an eagle that stirs up its nest and spreads its wings to catch its young. What Happens at Judgment? | Afterlife Pt 4
Scripture says "people are destined to die once, and after that to face judgment" (Hebrews 9:27, NIV). Pastor Chris closes the Afterlife series by explaining two judgments: one for how we responded to Jesus, and one for what we did with our lives. He shows what that second judgment means for believers whose sins are already forgiven. Is Hell Real? | Afterlife Pt 3
Hell is the hardest thing the Bible teaches about the afterlife, and Pastor Chris admits he struggles with it too. He explains why we can't remove hell from Scripture just because it makes us uncomfortable, and he answers universalism, the belief that everyone will be saved in the end. "For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways" (Isaiah 55:8, NIV). Skycrest Community Church · 125 N Belcher Road, Clearwater, FL 33765 Sundays: Group Bible Studies…
Why Should We Long for Heaven? | Afterlife Pt 2
There has to be more to heaven than streets of gold. Pastor Chris starts with Jesus' promise to the thief on the cross, "Truly I tell you, today you will be with me in paradise" (Luke 23:43, NIV). He explains why heaven will be paradise: the curse of sin lifted and our relationship with God fully restored. Why Don't We Talk About Heaven Anymore? | Afterlife Pt 1
Christians used to sing about heaven and long for it. Today we rarely mention it. Pastor Chris opens the Afterlife series by asking what changed, clearing up popular myths about heaven, and explaining the difference between the heaven believers enter at death and the new heaven and new earth to come. Did Jesus Really Rise From the Dead? | Easter 2021
Faith doesn't have to fear hard questions. On Easter Sunday, Pastor Chris asks whether Jesus was really raised from the dead. He shows that people in Jesus' day had even more reasons to doubt a resurrection than we do, and he takes up the challenge every skeptic raises: prove it. The King Rides In | Palm Sunday 2021
Centuries before it happened, the prophet Zechariah wrote that Israel's king would come "lowly and riding on a donkey" (Zechariah 9:9, NIV). On Palm Sunday, Pastor Chris walks through Jesus' entry into Jerusalem in Luke 19 and shows why the historical facts of Jesus' life matter for our faith. God Cancels Our Failures, Not Us | Canceled Culture
Cancel culture tells people that one mistake can erase everything they are. Pastor JP shares what students in our youth ministry are facing and shows that God's way is different: He cancels our failures, not us. Our lives can rest on God's Word instead of the shifting sands of whatever the culture approves of today. Three Commitments That Keep Us Salty | Salty Again Pt 11
Jesus said, "As the Father has sent me, I am sending you" (John 20:21, NIV). Pastor Chris closes Salty Again with three commitments Jesus lived by, starting with the way He got His marching orders from the Father in prayer (Mark 1:35–38). How Did Jesus Lead People to Faith? | Salty Again Pt 10
Jesus didn't just send us to do what He did. He sent us to do it the way He did it. Pastor Chris studies the conversations Jesus had with people and draws out the principles that opened the door to faith, so we can seek and save the lost as He did (Luke 19:10).
